Exploring Grassroot Realties: Insights From Student Led Community Research

Abstract

Cash transactions are difficult to track and often facilitate under-reporting of income under a cash-based economy known as the shadow economy, which further resulted in corruption, black marketing and failure of government welfare initiatives. As a countermeasure to the shadow economy, a cashless economy has been adopted by many countries worldwide. Digital payment is one of the tools in the eradication of corruption & black marketing, and an effective government tool for transferring pensions, financial aid and subsidies straight into the bank accounts of marginalised citizens.
Street vendors are among the most vulnerable, marginalised, and excluded people within the urban informal sector, but they have become a support system for the Lower Income Group and the Medium Income Group by helping them in meeting their fundamental necessities. The National Street Vendor Policy states that 2.5% of city dwellers work as street vendors or hawkers, providing a source of income for crores of urban poor people. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation claims that street sellers in India account for 63% of GDP and over 50% of the nation's savings.
By improving internet access, boosting payment system reliability, and providing targeted digital literacy programs, vendors may maximise the benefits of digital transactions
