Exploring Grassroot Realties: Insights From Student Led Community Research

Abstract

Substance abuse has emerged as one of the most important social and public health challenges affecting young people in India. The increasing consumption of drug and alcohol among adolescents and youth has raised serious concerns regarding physical and mental health, academic performance, social relationships, and overall well-being. Addressing this issue, the Government of India launched the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) with the vision of creating a drug-free society through a comprehensive approach that emphasizes awareness generation, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and active community participation.
This research paper provides an in-depth analytical exploration of awareness levels, perception, effectiveness, and societal response toward NMBA with special emphasis on grassroots communities. The study evaluates how awareness campaigns influence behavioral change and identifies gaps between policy design and actual implementation. The findings highlight that while recognition of the campaign is growing, comprehensive understanding and utilization of its services remains limited
