Measuring Misfortune: A Framework for Identifying and Assessing Advertising in Rural Communities

Advertising in small towns is built on a different logic compared to advertising in cities. With people in many villages having limited access to newspapers and the internet, as well as different levels of literacy, advertising relies on images, symbols, and the local dialect. Wall paintings, posters, radio programs, and such events as fairs and melas are traditional methods of making people aware of goods in villages. In addition to this, announcements by loudspeakers at bus stops and mobile advertisement cars are also widely used.
